Firewood, Mud, and a Stuck Tractor
Nice job!! Thats what I need to do to my deck next!! I like the darker look myself.
I’m quite fond of the way it turned out! Thanks for watching
Was gonna try this on my deck, but afraid of tracking it in the house on the hardwood floors.
Check out the part of the video where I showed my trailer, that was done 2 weeks ago and there’s absolutely no residue that comes off on my hand when I rub it
So did you mix anything with the oil? And is it just used auto oil? I don't think you ever said. What exactly the formula was that you were using? I could have missed it, but I watched it one and a 1/2 times
Just straight motor oil, this particular oil came out of a diesel engine, so it’s darker, if you use gasoline engine oil it will be a little lighter
Put some folding kegs under the splitting end that had chains to prevent over extending and the same chain for stowing when traveling
Great idea! Thanks for watching
I use a 50/50 mix of oil and diesel on everything wood and the underside of my vehicles. Unlike undercoating, it repels moisture and breaths, so any trapped water just evaporates away.
What do you think the added diesel to the mixture adds to the combo? I know they are similar in chemical structure, but why add the diesel?
Like Franks Red Hot, I put that sh!# on everything. Works great
Amen to that
I was questioning your judgment on that siding lol. I was saying keep the Hotsy going and hit that siding. Wait you said oil?? I have not done this but may hit my trailer!
I did it on my trailer a couple videos ago, check it out!
Looks good. I've heard carpenter bees will stay out of wood stained or soaked with used motor oil also. Did you cut your oil with deisel fuel or anything else.
That would be a beneficial side effect for sure. I just used straight oil
Love this attachment! Liked, Viewed, Subscribed and shaded.... Great video!
And that’s an old video before I knew what I was doing, you should check out some New ones!
Nice job. I have been doing this for 30 years! I too just do 1 coat every couple of years.
I’m ok with applying more as the product is free. Thanks for watching
Great informative video. Does the oil need to be drained prior to valve adjustment??
No it does not
Also good for equipment that lives outdoors. I undercoat rigs, my sawmill, wood truck bed, driveway, conveyor, more.
That’s the truth. Thanks for watching!
You mention oil, but not really say exactly what your using? Is it used motor oil? Is it a mixture of oil and diesel? What is your recipe?
Just straight used motor oil
@@EverythingElliott Thanks I'll try it on my trailer.
Looks great!👍👍
Thanks for watching
Looks good 👍
Thank you!
My only concern is the flammability of the oil. You might want to check with your fire insurance provider.
Once soaked in I can guarantee it’s no more Flammable than those oil based stains that you buy at the box stores
I would think the previous owner was trying to capture the Bills colours. Oil looks good
Who knows what he was thinking…wouldn’t have been my first move
@@EverythingElliott definitely a bold move but ya gotta love a fan lol
I like it, might try it on mine.
Go for it! Thanks for watching
Might try this on new truck bed walls I'm making.
Great way to protect them from the elements
How does that not smell every time it rains and the sun comes out?
Smells for about the first 3 days and that’s about it.
Same way the snake oil they overcharge you for doesn't smell, it dries
On my cedar fence I apply a 50/50 mix of used Hydraulic oil and diesel fuel. For every gallon I mix up I add a cup of dark walnut stain. No grass grows around the posts either 👍
Now that’s some good thinkin
Looking good Elliot! I try to make everything I build look like a rotten stick (rustic I think they call it) then there are low expectations for maintenance LOL!
Less likely to be stolen if it looks old, guess my deck is safe now
Less likely to be stolen if it looks old, guess my deck is safe now
Huh....never thought of used motor oil. Does it smell at all after it dries?
It does for about 3-4 days then smell goes away
Good video might try this with mine.
Works super well! Thanks for watching!
The deck looks great. Love how it came out.
Thanks! I'm super happy with the outcome as well!
linseed oil with a bit of danish oil for color then find that old crock pot no body wants and get it warm put as many paraffin wax slabs in and melt. I had raised bed gardens with 14 in t&g mounted vertical. dip the ends in croc pot you can fit 8 at a time. just my way
The wax is a great idea! Not sure how the wax would hold up in a high traffic area such as a deck, but probably works very well on the garden beds
Modern technology is just wonderful, but if you want something that actually works, old school is the best!
That's the case for a lot of things these days!
Great video, i am guessing used motor oil from cars, tractors, atvs, etc Right?
precisely
This has been done for probably close to 50 years just in my family alone if not longer. We do it on all wood. Only thing that works nowadays bc of how cheap the finishes are nowadays. Like you said they don’t hold up. Household paint barely holds up nowadays passed the 5 year mark. But this is not a new thing by any means. I tell everyone with wooden trains to always do it. They always end up loving it and I love in FL. Holds up in our sun and weather so I’m sure it will just fine for you 👍
Hoping to get a little more life out of the finish than the expensive chemical sealers that the big box stores peddle now a days
What kind of oil ?
any type of used oil will do the trick. This is a mix of whatever came through my shop for service in the past month.
@@EverythingElliott I just did a small porch and it looks great and like you said, no residue 😀
Maybe I missed you saying exactly what you are using? I think I know. I'm going to be replacing the wood on my trailer soon and will do the same thing. **Question though: did you add anything to it, is it a mix of fluids or all just the same source?
it's a mix of motor oil that was in anything that came through my shop in the past month for service. Nothing else added
I am going to do that to my two trailers. I give up on the commercial water seal products. They don't even last an entire year. I have a 10 ft landscaping trailer and a 20 ft equipment trailer.
The chemical sealers just don't last, its snake oil as far as I'm concerned. Also the prices they charge are ludacris!
Great fix!👍👍
It should work fairly well for the application I habe
TTY Re-Torq or leak
Hey you didn't harden and temper it after the repair!!
Guess we will see how long she lasts...
So they just went and put on blacktop sealer on a Milling driveway?
I believe so
Looks better than my welding brother. Probably last forever !! 👍
That would be a treat if it did! Thanks for watching!
Those welds are a lot better than mine.
Everyone has to start somewhere
hi there looks good did you look up plow frog john
Hi, I did. It appears that the frog is the mounting point that this cutting edge bolts to on the frame, so while related, not the exact part I’m looking for
@@EverythingElliott how did it ever get that name , john
Those were probably suppose to be plow bolts which I believe are harder, but I’m sure for your purpose carriage will do.
You’re 100% correct on both accounts
Nice job !, could you reheat treat it again by heating it back up and dipping in it an oil bath ??
I certainly could, but I believe for my application, it’ll last just fine as it sits
Not bad, I hate to say it may last for another 70 yrs. Or less.
One can only hope
I’m sure you know that the part you’re referring to in the beginning is the solenoid and if the gear pops up the solenoid is good. If the gear spins the starter is good. Sometimes the gear spins but the solenoid is bad and won’t pop the gear out to engage the ring gear to start the motor.
Fine job, probably last for ever, maybe even longer!👍
That would be ideal. For how little I use it, should last a lifetime
Pretty welds don’t mean their good welds! I think they look pretty good for none professional do it yourselfer definitely better looking than mine. I just curious why you plow the same plot over and over? I just hit mine with a cutting disc couple passes and it’s good. Love the content never know what we finna see on here!
I have terrible top soil in that area. Only About an inch or 2 of top before I hit clay. I want to flip as much organic material into it in effort to make more topsoil that’s nice and healthy.
The 12 year old in me says. Thats gonna take a hole box of scooby snacks to get fixed. LOL
Haha and it sure did!
Those welds looked pretty professional to me 😊😊
50,000 miles driving through what the Atlantic Ocean? Lmfao Jesus. Mine got replaced at 213,000 k on my last one. Wasn’t too bad
